Haywood Regional Medical is hosting a free Chest Pain Educational Session on Monday February 22, 2016 from 7-9pm at the Haywood Regional Health and Fitness Center 2nd floor Classrooms. Myocardial Infarction is the number 1 killer in the United States. Heart Attacks need not kill or destroy heart muscle. Half of these patients had signs & symptoms prior to the event but did not act upon them immediately & did not call 911.  You can help prevent heart attacks by understanding the risk factors, learning signs and symptoms, learn hands only CPR, and becoming an active bystander who could help save a life!

This event will provide education on:

  • Early recognition of the symptoms of a Heart attack
  • Hands Only CPR
  • Smoking Cessation
  • Other healthy habits to reduce the risk of heart disease and heart attack.

Presenters include: Kelly Telesz, MHA, RN, ED Director and Chest Pain Coordinator and Steven Strout, MSN, RN, CEN, CPEN, Education Coordinator & NC ENA State President

Telesz is the Emergency Room Manager and Chest Pain Coordinator at HRMC and is helping with outreach to educate people on the warning signs of heart attacks. “People need to recognize the signs and symptoms of a heart attack and respond to what is going on,” said Telesz.

Early signs of a heart attack include nausea, shortness of breath, feeling of fullness, chest pressure, squeezing or discomfort, back pain, anxiety, jaw pain and pain down one or both arms. Signs and symptoms can vary in diabetics, women and men.
