Haywood Regional Medical Center announces new Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Randall Towne

Haywood Regional Medical Center (HRMC) is announcing that Dr. Randall Towne has joined the medical staff.
“We are very pleased with the addition of an experienced interventional cardiologist like Dr. Towne to our cardiology team.” said Rod Harkleroad, CEO of Haywood Regional Medical Center. “With Dr. Towne on board, we are expanding the comprehensive heart care services available at our hospital to meet the needs of Western North Carolina so more patients can get care closer to home. With the addition of Dr. Towne, Haywood Regional offers an integrated approach to heart care that spans the spectrum from prevention and diagnostic care to the latest in interventional treatments and rehabilitation.”
Dr. Towne shares, “I pursued cardiology as a career after I lost my father and grandfather to sudden cardiac death at a very young age. I never want that to happen to others – I have never lost sight of my goal. I chose Haywood because it is a community hospital with innovation and far-reaching goals for success. I’m excited for the opportunity to provide a legacy of excellence.”
Dr. Towne has an undergraduate degree from the University of Wyoming, graduate degree from the University of Utah, and a medical degree from Mysore University. He completed an internship at the University of Massachusetts and a residency in Internal Medicine at the Hospital of St. Raphael, major affiliate of Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut. He completed a Cardiology fellowship at the Hospital of St. Raphael and an interventional Cardiology fellowship at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT at Yale University. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a member of the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Physicians, the American Heart Association, and the American Society of Echocardiography. Dr. Towne provides treatment for coronary artery disease, heart valve disease, peripheral vascular disease, and chronic vein disorders. He specializes in: angioplasty and stenting, peripheral vascular stenting, peripheral angiography and angioplasty, transesophageal echocardiography, and treatment of varicose veins and leg pain.
