Haywood Regional Medical Center Names Susan Wynne, RN, Recipient of The DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award
February 16, 2022
Haywood Regional Medical Center (HRMC) recently presented The DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award for Extraordinary Nurses ® to Susan Wynne, RN. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's mission to recognize the extraordinary, compassionate nursing care they provide patients and families every day.
Susan Wynne, RN in Women’s Care, recently celebrated 34 years and a much-deserved retirement. As part of her celebration, she was also given the great honor of the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award, created to recognize those nurses who have devoted their life’s work to the compassionate care of others. Susan even volunteered to be the first Haywood employee to receive the COVID-19 vaccination!
Andria Smith, Director of Women’s Care Services, shared, “Susan has been a mentor to many nurses coming into Women’s Care, including myself. Many families in Haywood County have been blessed to have her care for them at such a memorable time in their lives. She will be missed.” In her retirement, Susan plans to travel and may someday return to HRMC in an as-needed role.
The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, by members of his family. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. (DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.) The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
Nurses may be nominated by patients, families, and colleagues. The award recipient is chosen by a committee at HRMC to receive The DAISY Award. Awards are presented throughout the year at celebrations attended by the Honoree’s colleagues, patients, and visitors. More information is available at http://DAISYfoundation.org
