Haywood Regional Medical Center Names Two New DAISY Award Recipients
December 7, 2020
Haywood Regional Medical Center (HRMC) recently presented the November 2020 The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses ® for fourth quarter winners. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's mission to recognize the extraordinary, compassionate nursing care they provide patients and families every day. The DAISY Award recipients for this round of nominees are Jessica Patton, RN, and Rebekah Trantham, RN.
This quarter’s DAISY Award went to two nurses: Jessica Patton, RN, who works in the Emergency Department and Rebekah Trantham, RN, Director of the Progressive Care Unit. Jessica was recognized for her compassionate care and her professionalism in treating her patients who trust Haywood with their care. Rebekah was recognized for her calm, patient and empathetic leadership as director of the PCU. Each embody the spirit of the DAISY Award.
Said HRMC Chief Nursing Officer Susan Mahoney, “The DAISY Award gives patients and staff a chance to thank our extraordinary nurses. Now more than ever, our healthcare heroes deserve recognition for their care of our community.”
The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, by members of his family. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. (DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.) The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
Nurses may be nominated by patients, families, and colleagues. The award recipient is chosen by a committee at HRMC to receive The DAISY Award. Awards are presented throughout the year at celebrations attended by the Honoree’s colleagues, patients, and visitors. More information is available at http://DAISYfoundation.org.
