Haywood Regional Medical Center Suspends Visitation
March 19, 2020
Haywood Regional Medical Center (HRMC) continues to work closely with the Haywood County Health and Human Services Agency and the North Carolina Department of Public Health (NCDHHS) and and is following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to ensure the hospitals and clinics are prepared with the appropriate plans to detect, protect and respond should anyone in the community contract or be exposed to coronavirus (COVID-19). With the health and safety of our patients, families, employees and community in mind, effective at 12:00 noon on March 20, 2020, Haywood Regional Medical Center has temporarily suspended inpatient visitation to our facility.
HRMC will work with extended families who have special circumstance, such as critically ill or injured family members, on a case-by-case basis. Signage is being posted around the facilities notifying the community of these new restrictions and guidelines. Special circumstances include:
- ER patients will be allowed one well visitor (to remain with patient in room).
- One support person will be allowed for labor and delivery patients (to remain with patient in room).
- Visitors may be allowed to visit loved ones who are gravely ill, but will be asked to wear a mask while
in the building. Visitors with signs/symptoms of respiratory illness will not be permitted to visit under
this exception. - Visitors/Parents/Guardians may be allowed when a patient requires mobility assistance, is a pediatric
patient, is incapacitated or mentally incompetent.
Though Haywood Regional Medical Center has not yet had a positive case of COVID-19, these restrictions and changes are necessary to protect the health of patients, staff and community. Check the hospital website for updated information and follow the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and CDC for reputable updates.
