Haywood Regional Medical Center to Offer Free Sports Physicals to Local Students on May 13th, 2025

Haywood Regional Medical Center is proud to offer free sports physicals for local student athletes on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at the Haywood Regional Health and Fitness Center, located at 75 Leroy George Drive in Clyde. This annual event is open to middle and high school students in Haywood County who plan to participate in school sports during the 2025–2026 academic year.

No insurance is required, and there is no cost for students.

Rising sixth-grade students should attend the time slot for the middle school they will attend next year.

Physicals will be offered during the following times based on school:

· Canton Middle and Bethel Middle School: 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

· Waynesville Middle School: 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

· Tuscola High School: 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Students will rotate through multiple screening stations, including height and weight checks, blood pressure screenings, vision tests, musculoskeletal evaluations, and provider assessments. Clinical professionals from Haywood Regional Medical Center and Haywood Sports Medicine will conduct the evaluations, with assistance from our dedicated team of HRMC volunteers.

Families should contact their child’s school in advance to obtain the required pre-participation packet and bring the completed forms to the event. Students must have the parent/guardian portion of the packet signed to be seen.

Sports physicals are a vital part of protecting student athletes. These evaluations help identify potential health concerns—such as heart conditions, joint issues, or vision problems—before a student begins athletic activity. They support safe participation, improved performance, and long-term wellness for our young athletes.
